Bonjour mes amis! C'est deux jours après les élections américaines et je veux habiter à Paris maintenant! Malheureusement, je suis coincé à Chicago parce que de Covid-19. Mais, c'est ne veut pas dire que je ne peux pas rêver.

(Hello my friends! It is two days after the American elections and I want to live in Paris, NOW! Unfortunately, I’m stuck in Chicago because of Covid-19. But, it doesn’t mean I can’t dream.)

If you can’t tell, I may have France on the brain thanks to my favorite current distraction, “Emily in Paris”. This has been a popular one, if you wind up on TikTok for a moment of respite, you might find the “Two days watching Emily in Paris” trend. I’m hear writing about the obvious trend alert of the Francophile entering the US in full force. I’m talking berets, black tights, mini purses, the whole nine yards!

Some French Basics

  • The beret: obviously this is one that is kinda self explanatory. My tip is simple yet effective, think about how you want to style your hair underneath. If you don’t have hair or have a chic pixy, then congrats, rock one you fabulous human, this tip isn’t for you. But, if you have short hair like me, then think about wearing it down or situating your baby bun a little on the lower side so the iconic hat lays nicely. If you have long hair, I would totally opt for a slicked back low pony! Check out my favorites here!

  • The black tights: black tights are nothing new to the fashion world. If you don’t own some, pick some up at Target. My personal favorite comment about black tights that sum everything up into one is from a Parisian themselves, “Wear a skirt as short as you want, just pair a black tight with it.”. So, catch me wearing my mini leather skirts with black tights and booties for winter.

Those Matching Sets

  • If you have seen any sort of influential images from this show, you know there is a theme of matching sets. This is super easy to achieve especially if you have a black blazer and a black skirt or shorts with the same sort of fabric. If you don’t own pieces like this, check out Sandro Paris’ sets here. They are killing the shorts and blazer look and I’m obsessed.

  • The matching set can get a little formal. To dress it down, throw on a pair of sneakers and your favorite graphic tee!

The Red Lip

  • Yes, I understand that the red lip is a little unattainable at the moment given the whole mask thing. But, if you are like me and sitting at home in a ball gown and a full face of makeup just planing on the looks you’re going to serve when you can exit your home, then, the red lip. This is one of my favorite accessories and I’ve been padding my collection of ruby hues for awhile. Some of my favorites are from ColourPop, Mac, Urban Decay, Chanel, and Burberry.

  • Don’t get bummed down if your lipstick isn’t that precise at your first try. Start small then go in with a lip brush to help fix the edges. Or, go back in with a little concealer to correct the outline!

The Romance

  • This has less to do with the plot of the movie and more about the puffy sleeves and flowy dresses or skirts. The French are known for their “romantic” atmosphere when it comes to clothing. Anything with movement or a Victorian feel is perfect.
